12 directions of time
Monumental light sculpture — Alcatel-Lucent, Paris
Does time have a direction?
This is the question the artwork seems to pose. A column of ropes and glowing optical fibers rises eleven meters high. Twelve glass arrows, arranged along this vertical axis, each mark an hour.
The minutes are represented by a point of light that travels along each arrow to its tip.
Thus, time takes shape, races, and slips away. Upon reaching the summit, it is reborn at the base and resumes its inexorable journey.

It was the nature of the site that inspired this column of time. Connecting the two levels with a living, transparent sculpture was my response.
